In addition to this we have started a monthly training program to keep on top of our game.  All of our stylist will be participating and not only will there be classes from Tina, Sarah and Jason, but we are bringing in some top national educators to help us refine our skills.

No joke… my creative vibes have been overflowing. I have gotten so much inspiration for texture from working with natural wood and stone.   My mind was opened to new shape ideas when I started designing a two-story addition; meant to have a modern feel yet tie into Denver’s oldest neighborhood.  Color?  Wow, have I been checking out color palettes and textural blends of color and tone.

Hair seems to follow all societal design elements and the textural movement in hair is not all that different from the grainy flow of marble.  The shapes are becoming more angular, like the modern architecture that’s making a comeback, or the shapes are following a futuristic blended bubbliness.  Between the last slice and now I have visited LA, where Rock is King, and spent time in NY where high fashion with Euro flair prevails.  In the Midwest (Madison and Minneapolis) soft layers and blond locks still dominate.  The media is still pushing us towards darker locks with wave and texture as Megan Fox, Penelope Cruz, and Eva Longoria tear up the rag covers.  It is time to embrace our ever-growing ethnic culture, so Live Fast and Dye Your Hair!

Jack Rabbit Hill is also home to Peak Spirits distillery, makers of  Caprock organic gins, vodka, as well as 20 acres of pasture with small families of cattle, sheep, and chickens and 12 acres of protected wild life habitat.

     If you have been reading this blog you already know where I come from  and how I got to Denver.  This is the place where things really took off.  Whaaaa you say, it took off in Colorado when you were working on film and TV on the east coast?!  Well..when I hit Colorado  I knew I wanted supplementary inspiration and motivation to take behind the chair.  I started educating more and the next thing you know I am working stages at all the top trade shows (yes there are trade shows for hairdressers).  I am talking NYC, LA, Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Vegas, Orlando etc..  I was able to travel North America showing huge crowds my vision of fashion and trend, eventually leading me to Fashion week and Inner coiffure.  Once I started getting my looks out there I was contacted by a variety of publicists and PR companies.  This is the vehicle that got me doing hair for Molly Simms, Dave Navarro, and Anne Hathaway to name a few.

     This is kind of how the industry operates and once I had worked with PR firms the Rags began to call.  My 2009 Graham Webb collection was featured in the July edition of Beauty Launchpad, and I will have beauty tips in the September issue of Shape magazine.  Over the years Rags such as Elle, Modern Salon, and even Mile High have featured my work (not to mention my styling tips on AOL Stylist).  All this drives me behind the chair and increases my focus and motivation.  I have also currently been working with the prestigious Sebastian Team and products as well as creating looks for Nioxin.

      NOW WHATS UP???!!!

      I just got back from LA on tuesday and the fires are crazy….. I feel really bad for them.  But the vibe on the streets and in the clubs still Rock & Roll.  Glam hair, tight jeans, and boots, boots, boots; anywhere from combat to calvary style boots with dark jeans, slouchy shirts and BIG hair.  Chains, tattoos, and bling complement the sick cars that dominate on the 405.

So by now most of you know i slay follicle all over North America for everyone from the deprived to the celeb world ( Molly Simms, Dave Navaro, Anne Hathaway etc..) The question has been HOW? Jason how do you meet these peeps? Jason what’s it like to design a collection for a major manufacturer?  Answer – Love what you do and do it like your life depends on it with style and flavor.

So here is how it goes… It started for me back in 1990 when I was at MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art) and  went into my neighborhood salon in Baltimore – Geometrics – to get my fade tightened up for the weekend.  Owner Hep Preston took the punk rock, breakdancin, surf kid with the skateboard and baseball hat under his wing as an apprentice.  Thanks Hep!!! This salon was hot!!!  They were doing movies, riding Harleys ad getting tattooed way before it was trendy.  I was 19 and figured hair would pay the rent till i started selling my paintings. Learning via apprenticeship was free, artsy and fun. The Geometrics crew taught me to channel my vision through scissors, razors and color. They told me I could do whatever I wanted. This being in stark contrast to the typical school mentality of telling the stylist what they can not do.

After Baltimore I mowed hair in DC then NYC next stop Holland. Denver? Snowboarding. I gotta keep all my creative juices flowing.. the way I ride waves, snow and concrete is another of art to me. I love shredding hair and boards. I am always involved in urban restoration, architectural design, music fashion and my 59 DeSoto (that’s a car).

Here is what to look for this season: BRAIDS!!! Who watches Entourage? Did you see Sloan wearing the side French braid last week and Ashley with the braid down the Mohawk section this week?  Braid it or not this is how to change your look without looking like its prom this fall.
